Abortion is done voluntarily when a mother is not prepared to raise a child. Reasons for this include lack of finance to raise the child and when the cause of pregnancy is due to rape. Other reasons include when the mother divorces her husband while pregnant and she does not want to raise the child on her own, when one conceives a child out of wedlock. Abortion isdone when the mother is schooling and sees that bearing a child will interfere with her studies. Abortion is also done willingly when the mother is not mentally or emotionally prepared to keep a child. (Wolfgang, 1959)Unwilling abortion is done when doctors determine it to be necessary. It is necessary to do abortion when there are pregnancy complications. These complications may endanger a mothers life if the pregnancy is left to mature. In this case, the mother is not willing to lose the child, only th at abortion becomes the only option to save the mother's life. Other causes of unwilling abortion are accidents and infections.Regardless of the cause of abortion, the procedure is for sure dangerous. Various effects accompany abortion process. These effects are physical, psychological and physiological. Since this process is not natural, it alters the primary human body functions. The body of a woman can resist abortion naturally causing problems physically and emotionally.Minor complications of abortion include bleeding, persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, fevers and disturbances in the gastrointestinal system. Statistics has revealed that ten percent of women suffer complications immediately after abortion. Twenty percent of these complications are significant including inability to conceive, the risk of acquiring ectopic pregnancies, injury of the cervix, uterine perforations, embolism, hemorrhage and convulsions.Psychologically, women who have done abortion experience a feelin g of guilt, regrets on their actions, nervous disorders and insomnia. Other effects include sexual dysfunctions over some time due to lose of sexual pleasure or sex turning too painful. These women experience psychological disturbances like social regression, depression, withdrawal and hasty marriages.There are some serious abortion reactions including lack of self esteem, the behavior to destroy oneself, loss of memory, increase in violence tendency, remorse, loss of friends and lack of interest in enjoyable activities, problems with relationships and low concentration on any activity. Self destructive behavior is about hating oneself. This can lead to the search of destructive activities such as smoking, alcoholism, prostitution, violence and suicidal tendency. (Wolfgang, 1959)Abortion affects everyone in the society. Children who live with affected mothers do not experience love from them. They can be the target of psychological effects such as violence in their homes and copying the destructive behavior of their mothers.
